Yamaha MT-09 2025: Insane Power, New Design & Shocking Features!

The Yamaha MT-09 2025 is a well-known middleweight naked sports bike known for its powerful and agile engine and handling. It is a versatile motorcycle, suitable for both spirited rides and long journeys. The MT-09 has a history of updates and improvements, including the addition of features like cruise control and rider aids.

Overview

The Yamaha MT-09 has evolved several times in its decade-long existence and now has three variants – the standard 09, the more exotic SP, and the all-new Y-AM T, which, as the name suggests, comes equipped with an automated manual transmission. Having ridden all three on a Japanese racetrack, I now understand why this is such a popular motorcycle.

Yamaha MT-09 Engine & Performance

With the Yamaha MT-09, we can immediately confirm that this 888cc three-cylinder engine deserves all the love it gets. It produces the same 119 hp and 93Nm across all three variants, and while the sound is similar to the Triumph Triple, its performance is quite different.

While the Triumph 765 prioritizes the top end, the bigger MT pulls superbly from as low as 4,000 rpm. It’s the fantastic mid-range that makes it so entertaining, though it does rev easily above 10,000 rpm.

Yamaha has updated the riding position for 2024, with the handlebars lowered slightly and the foot pegs slightly higher. This creates a feeling of better connection with the front-end, but without discomfort.

The fuel tank was redesigned to accommodate the new handlebar position and is now lower and wider. While it looks impressively large from the rider’s point of view, it still only holds 14 litres.

The CP3 engine, with its inline three-cylinder layout, continues in its 890 cc displacement, has a claimed output of 117 bhp at 10,000 rpm, with 93 Nm of peak torque kicking in at 7,000 rpm from the last generation MT-09.

However, the 2024 model also features new ergonomics and an electronics suite managed through Yamaha’s Ride Control System.

Design & Style

The sixth corner at Japan’s Sodegaura Forest Raceway is a long sweeping left-hander, where you have to go a little wide and turn late at the top, and then make a slow and tight right-hander U-turn after briefly straightening out.

After a turn, you reach the main straight road, and accelerate ahead, the Yamaha MT-09’s 890 cc, three-cylinder, Crossplane 3 engine sings a melodious song that mesmerizes your every sense.

This might be due to its actual size, or it might just be a side-effect of how much fun this bike was to ride. There’s no doubt that the new rear looks better than before and the bike feels of better quality too.

The only eyesore is the large underslung exhaust, which has patchy discoloration in its metalwork.

Features & Tech

The Yamaha MT-09 is powered by an 890cc, liquid-cooled, inline three-cylinder engine that produces 119 PS and 93 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch and bi-directional quick shifter as well as an optional Y-AMT automatic gearbox.

The bike also features a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster, smartphone connectivity, and a host of riding aids.

Internationally, the Yamaha MT-09 was launched in 2014 and has undergone four model updates. The engine has been updated in its 2021 model with a 890 cc, DOHC Crossplane 3, inline three-cylinder engine.

In India, the Yamaha MT-09 made a brief appearance with its 2017 model, but it didn’t see much success. Now, Yamaha is keen to reintroduce the latest version, and it has more than one trick up its sleeve.

Price & Variants

The Yamaha MT-09 is a powerful hyper-naked bike from the Japanese manufacturer. It comes with an aggressive street fighter design and is based on the same platform as its faired sibling, the Yamaha R9. The MT-09 also has an AMT variant that features paddle shifters on the left side of the handlebars.
