Bird Group, in existence since 1971, is one of the leading dealerships of automotive brands like BMW and MINI in India.

Overview

According to the exclusive distribution agreement between the two parties, Bird Group will order a minimum of 10,000 units of e-scooters in the first year, with a sales value of approximately $13.8 million. This means that each scooter will cost around Rs 77,000. But before that, Bird Group will buy 20 Cumini e-scooter sample units this month.

The cumini e-scooter is powered by a 600W motor. It uses a swappable 20Ah battery with a range of 60-70 km. It features an LED lighting setup as well as keyless startup. It also gets tractable alarm status, battery charge, GPS position, and other data via Super Soco’s smartphone app.

India is the world’s largest ICE market, with around 162.6 million vehicles sold in the last decade, according to German market and consumer Data Company Statista. Even brands like Ola have bet big on the country’s electric future.

Feature and Tech

It has a unique feature. The CU Mini can be fitted with pedals and, as an electric bicycle, its speed can be limited to 15.5mph – by doing this, you will be able to use cycle tracks and you will not need a helmet, license, or insurance.

You can ride it even at the age of 14 (the lower limit for e-cycles). For those who remember them, it’s a throwback to the 1970s, when mopeds really did have to have pedals.

For everyone else, a budget electric bicycle will be cheaper and lighter than a CU Mini with pedals

Engine and Performance

Moped power is limited to 4 kW (5.4 bhp), but the CU Mini is far from this height. The rear hub motor produces only 600 watts, making it one of the weakest e-mopeds on the market.

  • Like all mopeds, its speed is limited to 28 mph, which, as we’ve said many times, isn’t fast enough to keep up with most traffic in the 30 range, let alone 40.
  • More importantly, the CU Mini has a very slow acceleration.
  • This matters more than the top speed in stop/go city traffic, where even a moped can pull away from lights just fast enough to avoid danger.
  • Unfortunately, the Super Soco is very slow to get going, and it’s very slow when exiting a busy junction.
  • It drops to less than 20 mph when climbing a hill (and even walking speed on a steep slope), so it’s only meant for quiet and level city streets.
  • The famous torque of electric motors doesn’t apply when they’re so modest.
  • The CU Mini will reach speeds of 26-27 mph on the flat and 28-30 mph on the slopes, but you won’t be bothered by any speed cameras.

Price and Variants

The Super Soco Cumini is expected to have a starting price of Rs 90,000. It is an upcoming electric scooter with a 28 Ah battery, and its expected launch date is August 19, 2025. The Cumin STD variant is expected to have a range of 60-70 km per charge and a top speed of 45 kmph.
