The KTM 390 SMC R was recently showcased at the 2024 edition of EICMA. KTM did not reveal any specifications for the SMC R back then, but now it has revealed the motorcycle’s data on its official website.

  • The 390 SMC R weighs 11 kg less than the 390 Duke
  • It has a rectangular 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity
  • Gets radial-mounted calipers compared to axial-mounted calipers on the Adventure line-up

Here is a more detailed look at the key features and aspects of the KTM 390 SMC R:

Engine and Performance

The 390 SMC R is powered by the same 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as the 390 Duke that produces 45.3 hp and 39 Nm. This engine is known for its strong acceleration and excellent tractability.

Chassis and Suspension:

  • The 390 SMC R is based on the same platform that underpins the 390 Adventure and 390 Enduro R.
  • It gets fully adjustable WP Apex USD forks at the front and a WP monoshock at the rear, with plenty of suspension travel (230mm).
  • The bike rides on 17-inch spoke wheels shod with tubeless tyres.

Features and Tech

  • Its design is inspired by the 690 SMC R, featuring a lean and purposeful silhouette.
  • It features a compact 9-litre fuel tank and a single-piece seat, which is seamlessly integrated with the tank.
  • The 390 SMC R gets a 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity for music, calls, and navigation.
  • It also includes three riding modes: Rain, Street, and Race.
  • The bike is lighter than the 390 Duke, weighing 154 kg.

Design and Style

The 390 SMC R is powered by the same 399cc, single-cylinder engine as the 390 Duke, but in Europe, this motor is rated at 44.9 hp, which is slightly less than the 390 Duke available in India, which is rated at 46 hp.

Chances are that when the 390 SMC R gets here, it will make the full 46 hp, just like the Duke. The SMC R has a single-piece seat with a height of 860 mm.

The motorcycle weighs just 154 kg (wet weight, without fuel), which is 11 kg less than its sibling 390 Duke.

  • In terms of design, the 390 SMC R takes inspiration from its bigger brother, the 690 SMC R.
  • It has an upright rider triangle in typical supermoto style.
  • The single-piece seat flows and merges with the 9-litre fuel tank, which is 6 liters smaller than the Duke.
  • The 390 SMC R features a small, rectangular 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, which helps riders access music, calls, and turn-by-turn navigation.
  • The TFT display also helps the rider switch between three riding modes: Rain, Street, and Race.
  • The KTM 390 Enduro features a typical KTM dual-sport design language, with sharp, minimalist bodywork and a tall, beaked front fender.
  • The only road-biased element on the Enduro is the underbelly exhaust.

Price and Variant

Depending on customer demand, the 390 SMC R is expected to be launched in India, possibly in the second half of 2025. It is expected to be priced between Rs 3.2 lakh and Rs 3.3 lakh (ex-showroom), which would put it slightly above the 390 Duke.  It is likely to be the sub-500cc supermoto in India.
