BYD Seagull EV 2025: The $10,000 Electric Car That Could Break the Auto Industry?

The BYD Seagull is an electric hatchback car that is speculated to be launched in India. It is the smallest and the most affordable car from the Chinese carmaker, with prices starting at 69,800 Yuan (approximately ₹8.23 lakh).

The Seagull is available in three trim options and is powered by a 74 hp front electric motor. The hatchback comes with two battery options: 30.1 kWh or 38.9 kWh.

With this, it offers a range of up to 405 kilometers on a single charge. At the moment, there is no official confirmation about the launch of the BYD Seagull in India.

A new hatchback electric car named BYD Seagull. Today, a huge update is coming from BYD Auto, where BYD has said that this car is ready to directly compete with the Edge Comet E and Tata’s EV lineup in the Indian car market.

If we talk about range, then this car will give you a journey of more than 400 km on a single charge, which is its real-life range. Despite being a small-segment car, its dimensions are much bigger than Edge Comet.

Let’s take a look at its features, technical specifications, and performance. The BYD Seagull stands out with its massive profile and impressive dimensions.

The length of the car is 3780 mm, width 1715 mm, height 1540 mm, and in this, you get wheelbase of 2500 mm.

Design and Style

The side profile is equally impressive, with the higher variants getting 16-inch alloy wheels and the base variant getting 15-inch alloy wheels. The door handles are flip-style, and the black finish adds a sporty element.

These dimensions make it much larger than the Edge Comet EV. If you compare it with the Tata-AIG model, the Seagull is longer and wider and has a larger wheelbase too.

In terms of looks, the front profile offers a sporty look. The LED headlamps are placed at the top, along with LED turn indicators.

The LED daytime running lights (DRL) in the middle further enhance its beauty. The lower grille in black finish further enhances its modern design.

Interestingly, unlike most other models from BYD, this car does not include advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) features to keep it affordable.

At the rear, LED connecting tail lamps, a roof-integrated spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp, and a sharp fin antenna add a sporty touch. A rear-view camera and parking sensors are also included.

The Blade Battery Pack is an excellent feature, offering better safety and heat management than traditional lithium-ion batteries.

The electric motor of the car produces a maximum power of 55 kW and a torque of 135 Nm, making it powerful and efficient.

It is equipped with a front-wheel drive system, and there are no rear-wheel or all-wheel drive options available.

The new BYD Seagull car comes in three variants, with two battery pack options available 

• 30 kWh lithium-ion battery pack offers a true range of 305 km per charge.
• 38 kWh Blade battery pack delivers an impressive actual range of 405 km per charge.

Price and Variants

The BYD Seagull price in India is expected to start at Rs 10 lakh and is likely to be offered with two battery pack options – a 30kWh unit with a range of 305 kilometers and a 38kWh unit with a range of 405 kilometers. 

The smaller battery pack will be paired with a 72PS electric motor, while the larger pack will be paired with a 100PS motor.
